Women’s Leadership Summit Grant

In honor of Beatriz del Cueto, FAIA, this scholarship provides up to $1,500 in financial support to cover registration, travel, and lodging expenses for the AIA Women's Leadership Summit 2026. The summit will take place in Kansas City, Missouri from November 1-3, 2026.

The Women’s Leadership Summit (WLS), founded by the AIA, is a national leadership experience. It connects one of the largest networks of female architects and architects-in-training with talks and sessions focused on professional career development in architecture.

OBJECTIVE OF THE SCHOLARSHIP

The WIA Leadership Scholarship was created by the Women in Architecture chapter of the AIA-PR. Its purpose is to provide financial support to female architects and architects-in-training to help them access professional growth and development opportunities offered at the prestigious Women's Leadership Summit. The financial support of up to $1,500 can be used for the Women's Leadership Summit registration and/or related travel and lodging expenses.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Be an active AIA member

  • Be an active member of the AIA Puerto Rico Women in Architecture Committee

  • Be licensed or in the active process of licensure

*Participants who have been awarded the Grant within the past 3 years are not be eligible to apply for the Grant.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • Resume

  • Evidence of active AIA Membership

  • Evidence of active WIA Membership

  • Evidence of professional license or if being in the process of obtaining one; evidence of an NCARB Record

  • One-page letter of recommendation

  • A 500-word statement describing your future professional plans in architecture and what you hope to gain from attending and participating in the Women’s Leadership Summit.

AFTER THE SUMMIT

Recipients will be required to “give back” to WIA-PR by writing a post-conference essay on how they benefited from the experience and choose from one of the following, based on something they learned:

  • Create a panel discussion or presentation

  • Write an article for WIA-PR

  • Organize a webinar

GRANT TERMS AND CONDITIONS

This grant provides reimbursement up to a maximum of $1,500.00 for eligible expenses related to attendance at the 2025 AIA Women’s Leadership Summit. Eligible reimbursable expenses include: WLS Registration Fee, two-night accommodations, and/or airfare. Recipient is responsible for additional expenses not covered by the grant. This grant is reimbursement-based only. No funds will be issued in advance. Recipient must present proof of expenses for reimbursement after attending the event. Reimbursement requests must be submitted within 30 days of the event’s conclusion. Recipients are responsible for any expenses exceeding the $1,500.00 grant amount. All travel arrangements and upfront costs must be managed and paid for by the recipient. Participation in the program constitutes agreement to these terms.
